And after He had appeared in human form, He abased and humbled Himself [still further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of death, even the death of the cross!
Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name,
That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
And every tongue [frankly and openly] confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
While on this planet, Jesus operated in the Spirit of Sonship. It was his operating platform. Everything he said; everything he did; it was all out of recognition that God was his Father. Ability to “do” was fueled by submission to the identity of “be”ing His Son. As a result, the Father was revealed through the Son.
Interesting, isn’t it? To whom was this “revealing” of the Father intended for? God knows who He is. Obviously, the Son knew too.
The revealing of the Father was for “as many as would receive the Son” so that they too “might become the sons of God.” In this topic, we have seen that the Father made the Captain of our Salvation perfect through the things he suffered so that the Father might bring many sons to glory! (feel free to go back and revisit that particular point: https://forerunnerperspective.wordpress.com/category/sonship/)
Every step of the process that Jesus went through was a vital step to restore Man to his proper function and place in right relationship with his Creator. And, as the source of Man’s Life, God is the Father of our spirits! God wants to reveal Himself as and be known by us as our Father. He desires that Sonship be the operating platform of His Life flowing in/through us.
This is the purpose for the next step of the process; the Exaltation of Jesus to the right hand of the Father. Without this exaltation, Jesus could not send the Holy Spirit to us so that we might be able to share in the blessing of adoption as sons.
The Old Testament predicted that the Son would sit at the right hand of the God: “The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand, til I make your enemies your footstool” (Psalm 110:1). When Christ ascended back into heaven, he received the fulfillment of that promise: “When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high” (Heb 1:3). This welcoming into the presence of Father and sitting at His right hand is a dramatic indication of the accomplishment of the Son’s work.
In the first Pentecostal sermon, Peter actually incorporated the prophetic Old Testament scriptures regarding this ascension in order to bring this explanation of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit:
“This Jesus God raised up, and of that all we [His disciples] are witnesses.
Being therefore lifted high by and to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promised [blessing which is the] Holy Spirit, He has made this outpouring which you yourselves both see and hear.” (Acts 2)
So, the exaltation of the Son is for the purpose of shedding abroad or sending from a position of governmental authority the Spirit in order to do his work.
“…that we might be adopted and have sonship conferred upon us and be recognized as God’s son].
And because you really are His sons, God has sent the Holy Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, Abba (Father)! Father!” (Galatians 4:5-6)
As it stands now, according to Father’s mind regarding us, we are strategically positioned in Christ, sharing in his authority as sons and in the blessings of sonship!
May blessing (praise, laudation, and eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm!
Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love.
For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will [because it pleased Him and was His kind intent] (Ephesians 1:3-5)
Again, we see this is Father’s eternal plan! Truly, He has predestined us to be conformed to the image of the Son. Jesus sits in a position of authority at the right hand of the Father. That which his work has accomplished has been vested in the Spirit which he now sends to us. To resist the Spirit of Sonship is to resist and deny Christ his rightful place and dominion.
Undoubtedly, the Son sits and awaits for his enemies to be made his footstool. But, I believe he is also waiting for God’s people to receive the revelation of God as Father and to walk in the fullness of being the sons of God. We will see the government of God arise in the earth in proportion to the degree we, as His people, yield and submit to His purpose of maturing us as sons.
While well-meaning, countless numbers cry out to God to “come”, “pour out your Spirit”, “send revival” and any other Christian mantra you can insert here, what God HAS done and IS doing is being ignored. The Way He has made to perfect His people through Sonship is refused. God’s people can be destroyed by lack of knowledge and not yielding to His Thoughts/Ways. Multitudes want God to DO MORE when He has DONE all that He is going to do. We must learn to enter into the New and Living Way that Jesus consecrated for us.
May we frankly and openly confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is exalted as Lord and that he has sent to us the Spirit of Sonship so that we might enter into fulfilling the Father’s purposes in this age!
Keep your peace!
