What I’m Currently (re) Reading! The Harlot Church System

20130105-152813.jpgOver the past two years, I’ve had the distinct privilege of being introduced and getting to know a dear brother in The Lord. I’ve known of Charles Newbold for 20 year or so. I ran across his book, The Crucified Ones in the early ’90s. Excellent read and, in my humble opinion, should be mandatory reading for all/any believers whether new or well-seasoned. It contains incredible, necessary revelation of the Gospel of the Kingdom that you don’t hear in Christian circles today but is required in maturing believers.

As good as that book is, it is not the one book from Newbold that I’m currently re-reading.

If you’ve followed this blog to any degree, you know that my perspective really, ummmmmmm, shall we say, doesn’t fit with the existing “church” structures and systems. Ok, so it’s no where close to fitting but there is an excellent reason. It is fair to say that there was a time I was firmly entrenched in the system. It was what I knew and what I was trained to do. Although I perpetuated that madness, it wasn’t my heart. I knew there had to “be more”, I just had know idea what the “more” was. I couldn’t even really conceive of the “more” because I really didn’t even realize what I was involved in at that time! I was bound by a system that professed God’s name but bore no accurate representation of Him. Not only was I bound………..I was blind.

Enter Charles Newbold’s book, The Harlot Church System.

Wow! What a title! That’s what initially piqued my interest. How in the world could “harlot” and “church” be used in the same title, especially with harlot serving as an adjective for church?

Newbold is one of 4 main authors that Father has used in my life to revolutionize it. I would list the others but I know him well enough now to know that if I did, it would make him uncomfortable. To be honest, if he were to read it, this whole post is more than likely making him squirm. He’ll just have to deal with it! 🙂

Having had the privilege of getting to know him and, his lovely wife, Nancy a little bit over the past several months and hearing their story, it occurred to me that I might need to go back and re-read The Harlot Church System. That, my dear reader, was a most excellent decision.

So, because I have your best interest in mind, I wanted to share it with you and encourage you to partake; regardless of whether you’ve read it before or not. I personally think that the Holy Spirit had Newbold actually write this book for this time and season. He may disagree with me and it is okay if he does so. It is just that I think the number of people who know that there is “something more” has grown exponentially since I came across the book. And, much like the state I was in at the time, they are blind to their current position in the midst of a system that only brings confusion and paralyzes them from entrance into the Kingdom.

To those seekers who will read it with a spirit of humility and repentance, The Harlot Church System will clearly reveal the undeniable, biblical truth that will exorcise false religion and the forces it employs to keep God’s People held captive.

Let me give you just a taste of what I’m talking about. Here’s a brief excerpt from the book:

This Thing we call church, as we have come to experience it, is an idolatrous extension of our own Selves. Though it exists as an entity unto itself, we are in it and it is in us. It is an icon of self-worship that has grown out of the traditions of men and has no basis in scripture. We proclaim that this Thing we call church is the Kingdom of God when in fact it has nothing to do with the Kingdom of God. Rather, it is the modern-day Babylonian captivity of the elect of God.

We have confused our relationship with Christ by fusing it with this Thing we call church. We are led to believe that when we are in a proper relationship with it we are in a proper relationship with Christ; that we have to be a member of a church to be saved or to be a good Christian; that serving it is serving Christ; that loving it is loving Christ; that tithing to it is tithing to Christ.

Do you see what I am saying? Pretty clear and concise. Chock-full of accurate scriptural interpretations concerning the Church from God’s perspective, the body of truth presented in this book will go a long way in preparing the spirit and heart of a believer to take the first steps of true Kingdom pursuit………….acknowledging that what we must change our minds from what have always known church to be.

You can find all of Newbold’s writings at Charles Newbold All of his writings are available for free, whether you download them or order hard copies. Just another quality I appreciate about the man. However, I would suggest that just because he freely gives that which he has received, doesn’t mean that it is not worth financially supporting. Just a thought.

Keep your peace!

  1. Wow – just started looking at the Crucified Ones, and I am very encouraged. I really needed this encouragement today, having been discouraged this weekend and tempted to go out and find a church. This book speaks to where my wife and I have found ourselves – having been through the Pentacostal/Charismatic stuff, then leaving the institutional church a couple yrs. ago. He puts words to what has been going on in our spirits, and I look forward to reading some of his other stuff. He seems to be a real treasure and Father in the Lord. Thank you so much for the link!

    • I hear ‘ya. This book was probably the most instrumental piece in the Spirit revealing the truth about the church and commanding my husband and me to “Come out from her…” As we’ve discovered, and continue to discover, coming out of the church is one thing; getting the church out of us is another. Be encouraged. There are many of fellow “crucified ones” out here being gathered unto Father for this very time.

  2. I have read all of Charles Newbold’s books….got a lot from each one. Highly recommend also “Stepping Into the Circle” and “The Crucified Ones.” Like Chad’s recent post, I too have been thru the Pentecostal/charismatic movement and have tried many different churches looking for the “right one.” I have even participated in some “home churches” but still find you can leave Egypt but getting Egypt out of people is another story. I got tired of “intellectual Christianity” and organized religion knowing in my spirit their has to be more than this. God has led me to people like Bryon and I receive more in my spirit from reading and listening to his teachings than all the years I attended institutional church and that is because Bryon and others have had the courage to call institutional church for what it is. It is not the pattern God intended. What is encouraging is there are others out there teaching the Kingdom of God like Forerunner Ministry. We need to get back to being “Christ-centered rather than Self-centered.

  3. Agreed–this book is very much a confirmation–the organized church has merged with the world system..thus many of us (after receiving the Holy Spirit) are hearing the call to “come out out of her” and follow Jesus only. We can only recognize His voice as true.

We too have only a handful of true shepherds who have fed us with such truths to call us into deeper relationship with Jesus, since we left the organized church (for us it has been about 20 years now). Ministers like Brother Newbold minister in the voice/character of the Shepherd and don’t abuse or fleece the flock. (I have known Bro. Newbold for about 20 years now and observed his walk/character—I was honored to be the one who typed up his writings and put them online initially).

True Shepherds nurture and then release the sheep to care of the Great Shepherd, They don’t Lord over the sheep or try to control or manipulate them. Charles Newbold has been key in our lives as has George Warnock & Russell Stendal. Lord bring forth more TRUE laborers to the harvest…the harvest is ripe but the laborers are few…

God bless.. I appreciate you and your testimony. 🙂
