I originally posted this post back in January. Please forgive the redundancy, but I have gotten quite a bit of communication the last few days from brothers/sisters struggling with this very issue. It seems that the words of Peter are more relevant than ever:
Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset—rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined],
So, in order to encourage, I thought I would simply re-submit this post, rather than writing another blog on the topic. Peace!
A believer is not to be defined by their past without Christ but is rather to be defined by their future in Christ! That’s a great statement, don’t you think?
Well, getting people to believe this is one thing. Getting them to walk it out in their lives is even more of a perplexing task! But, that is precisely the reason Father bestows the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to those who seek Him through the New Covenant . Believers must be transformed into Seekers and must be taught how to walk in the New Way that Christ prepared for them!
I have the privilege of being called and graced to equip others to function in Christ according to the grace they have received. As a daily average, I have the joy of directly speaking and/or communicating with 4-5 people with whom I have a Christ-based, intimate relationship. What floats my boat is to see them grow in Him and come to express Him, whether individually or corporately, in ways they have never known.
Over the years, as I have journeyed to know Him better and accompanied others on their journey to do the same, I have noticed many pitfalls, temptations, snares and devices that the adversary uses to dishearten, discourage and detour believers in pursuit of Him.
None of satan’s trickery or deceit is as devastating to a Seeker as demonic accusations because demonic accusations can produce a debilitating and paralyzing effect which can significantly hinder a Seeker’s journey, if not derail it completely.
In encouraging believers to operate in forgiveness, which is a vital Kingdom principle, Paul stated in 2 Corinthians 2:11 that it would be beneficial to do so,….
“….so that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes.”
The literal translation of the Greek is, “That we may not be defrauded by satan.” or as Young’s Literal Translation puts it, “that we may not be over-reached by the adversary.”
Again, in mentoring the Ephesian believers, this time in governing anger, Paul admonishes
“…and give no place to the devil.”
These verses are given to us in order to establish some important truths that every Seeker needs to keep predominant in a sober mind.
If you would, please allow me to paraphrase the definition for the word “schemes or devices” found in the scripture. It means “mind games.” Satan is actively involved in mind games attempting to defraud you, which means he wants to use deception to illegally obtain things which are rightfully yours. Okay! Stop! Go back and read the bold print in the previous sentence.
Got it? Good. Let’s move on then.
While we do not glorify satan in any way, it is important for a Seeker to be aware of the adversary’s mind games, the ability that they do possess and how to take dominion over them.
The original Hebrew term, satan, is a noun from a verb meaning primarily to, “obstruct, oppose,” and is commonly translated in the New Testament as “the accuser,” or “the adversary.” Jesus declares that satan has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of liars. (John 8:44) In the Ephesians passage above, devil means one prone to slander and falsely accusing.
Aside from telling you some basic information you have probably heard before, the previous paragraph holds a very important veiled revelation.
Demonic accusations are an attempt by the adversary to cheat or deprive you of certain things that were legally given to you by God and which you possess. Perhaps you are thinking about material goods, health issues, etc., however, it goes much deeper than those types of carnal things. Demonic accusations strike at the very source of your new life in Christ. The primary intent of demonic accusations is to deprive you from partaking of God’s Nature and acting accordingly, which is the benefit of the New Covenant, and seeks to transpose a believer’s function back to his nature.
When the adversary speaks of things regarding your past and reconnects you with memories, hurts or pains from past experiences, he speaks in relation to the old things that have passed away in an attempt to hinder the advancement of all things which exist as a new creation in Christ! In so doing, his words of deceit, lies and wicked twistings carry with them his very nature. Just as surely as Father’s Word comes from His Being and carries with it His Divine ability to transform; so too, does the adversary’s. Hence, the reason why I use the term demonic accusations. Your adversary will strive to influence your mind, and irritate and weigh down your spirit so that your spirit cannot receive the witness of the Holy Spirit that you are indeed a child of God, an heir and a joint-heir with Christ.
While falsely accusing, the slanderer will use facts but never truth. If a Believer is prone to succumbing to the pressure of situations and circumstances, the adversary will utilize it as an open door to interject cynical allegations. He will use people, even those who are close to you and especially religious people, to speak disparaging criticisms. Memories and dreams of past experiences or actions will surface in order to fuel belittling arraignments. Trust me, he has spent years installing false expectations in your life through parents, preachers and other authority figures for you to “live up to” that he will use to amplify his evil conjectures of blame and fault. He doesn’t care what he uses………..he just wants to make it about Y-O-U! The purpose is to get you to focus on yourself and divert your spiritual eyes from Christ!
It is not adequate for a Seeker to just be aware of this particular psychological warfare that the adversary employs; a Seeker must mature and come to realize the seriousness of this matter and learn how to resist/overcome this main method of demonic attack.
The seriousness of this issue can be understood by understanding the two words used to describe the effect of demonic accusations: Debilitating and Paralyzing.
Debilitating means to hinder, delay, or weaken. Paralyzing means to cause a person to become partly or wholly incapable of movement or to render someone unable to think or act normally.
Do you see what the one who obstructs is after? He relishes in stopping or hindering your advancement in pursuit of Father. He doesn’t mind if you believe. Demons believe! But the accuser does find it perplexing that you would pursue God and come to know Him in a greater manner because that is eternal life. So, he will hurl demonic accusations at you every step of the way to weaken you and cause you not to think according to the mind of Christ. He will attempt to draw your attention to your old man and not the New Man being formed in you. He wants you to try and continue your journey in your own strength and not rely on the power of the Spirit.
Please read the following passage of scripture from Revelation 12:
Now it has come—the salvation and the power and the kingdom (the dominion, the reign) of our God, and the power (the sovereignty, the authority) of His Christ for the accuser of our brethren, he who keeps bringing before our God charges against them day and night, has been cast out! And they have overcome (conquered) him by means of the blood of the Lamb and by the utterance of their testimony, for they did not love and cling to life even when faced with death.
Here’s some truth for you!
You have been delivered out of the domain of satan’s authority and have been translated into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son. You, dear Seeker, are to demonstrate the authority found in the submission to Father’s reign. What you choose to tolerate will become the reality of your existence. Now that you have been reminded of the debilitating and paralyzing effect of demonic accusations, you must act in faith and obedience to put down those railings and accusations.
When the slanderer begins to draw your attention to SELF, redirect his attention, along with your own, to the blood of Jesus Christ. The blood is what was presented to Father that caused ALL issues between you and Him to be settled. The blood is powerful enough to cause Father to declare that He would not remember your sins anymore and serves as the basis for all of His dealings with you. The blood represents a FINISHED WORK. Stop being hindered because of a lack of knowledge and don’t neglect your function of actively demonstrating Father’s dominion.
Speak! Verbally………….out loud…………..give your testimony. Declare what a wonderful thing that Father has done in you, for you and through you. This is what the “word of their testimony” means. It is an utterance. Please read this carefully. You do not displace a thought with another thought! You must speak.
The authority of God is released through the spoken word. The demonic accusations that are rattling around in your head will be subdued as you take authority over them by speaking. The word for “testimony” used in this verse implies the office committed to the prophets of testifying concerning future events. As the adversary endeavors to base his attack on who you were or who you are currently, evoke the power of God in conforming you to the image of the Son. Remember, you are to be defined by your future in Christ!
Finally, do not love your life to the end. In this passage, it literally is speaking of martyrdom. While there are those who are literally called upon to face such a physical death, the principle of crucifixion of the flesh is the basis of all true Kingdom function. Remember, as a Seeker you are seeking Him and He only receives that which is consistent with His Nature. God is Spirit and no flesh glories in His presence. The best way to thwart the adversary is to maximize the Spirit life and as Paul instructs:
Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
I apologize for the length of this post but I consider overcoming demonic accusations to be a serious issue in the journey of a Seeker. My prayer is that what you have read has been encouraging to you and offers hope in continuing your journey! Father is drawing you to Himself. Listen to His thoughts about you and for you!
Keep your peace!
