Just A Thought! Giving According to a Kingdom Mentality

just a thought forerunnerPerhaps the greatest manifestation of Spirit-led living ever seen was not found in the powerful preaching of the apostles or the incredible miracles that took place by their hands, but, rather, it was revealed through the unselfishness manifested by the church in their giving.

If the Church is to truly function according to the Kingdom, one of the final strongholds that must be conquered by believers today is the subject of money and giving.  The time has come for mature believers to embrace the Way of the Kingdom and release antiquated concepts regarding finances that have kept them bound to a worldly system.

“I place no value on anything I have or may possess, except in relation to the kingdom of God. If anything will advance the interests of the kingdom, it shall be given away or kept, only as by giving or keeping it I shall most promote the glory of Him to whom I owe all my hopes in time or eternity.”
― David Livingstone

Developing appropriate mentalities and practices regarding money and giving is apostolic work. The essence of being “sent” into this world for PURPOSE must be foundational in the understanding of individual believers and kingdom communities.  As pilgrims and strangers passing through this world, effective, mature believers will learn to willingly release temporal resources under the government of the Holy Spirit in order to accomplish eternal purposes.

Through such radical obedience and trusting The Source rather than resources,  the Kingdom breaks forth through the lives of Father’s People overtaking worldly systems and meets temporal needs, establishes proper order and accomplishes eternal purposes.

Whether it is Jesus breaking and blessing an inadequate portion in order to feed thousands or the early Church distributing resources so that none had need, the Kingdom is awaiting to break through in Divine Ability through the lives of those who yield and willingly release resources under the direction of the Holy Spirit.

The hour in which we live requires such a Kingdom mindset and the wise ones will choose to enter into such Spirit-led function sooner rather than later.

  1. I did a study some years ago based on this question: “What would make pagans run to the church in droves, if it would cost them everything (reputation, career, money, even life) to do so?” I read pagan sources, pagan comments about the first century church–what did UNBELIEVERS say about the early ekkelsia. Instead of believing our own “press clippings,” what did UNBELIEVERS find attractive about the church. Bryon, this study was instrumental in my migration ten years ago. I came up with the top 7-8 qualities that spoke to unbelievers. I was ashamed, and chagrined to discover that none of the things I had valued and invested my time, money, and life energy in, mattered at all to reaching unbelievers. We’re funny people. We say we want a “first century” church but we neither preach nor practice anything they did. (I did another investigation in what the apostles actually proclaimed publicly . . . embarrassed . . . we don’t preach what they preached–we get lost in esoteric biblical speculations, they were very limited and focused in their message and preaching) Pagans certainly weren’t attracted by “sermons” and “hot worship services.” In one way or another, every item in the top 7 related to giving-in-one-anotherness. I realized I was part of the problem, and wanted to be part of the solution, and could not as long as I was doing what I was doing. That was the beginning of the end for me in establishment Christian religion, ten years ago and counting . . . . with no regret.
