One Stands Holding Change, Others CrushedWe cannot live the life as children of God, much less as mature sons, unless we understand that we are conceived and empowered to do so by the Holy Spirit. What a precious gift of His Love bestowed upon us!

When received by faith, Love is able to create us as born again ones who now have the capability of receiving the witness, from Spirit to spirit, that we are, indeed, children and heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ.

Acknowledging the truth of our identity in Him and understanding the aspect of partaking in His Nature lays the foundation for the revolutionary metamorphosis that has been initiated in us.  Our time on this planet is not for just living as happy a life as we can and waiting for a an end time apocalyptic event to bring about the transition from mortality to immortality.  At conception, a born again believer is translated into eternal life and positioned in the accompanying vortex of constant change and learning to actually BE (functionally exist as)  what they have become.

Yes, Father’s intention is to bring “many sons to glory” by “conforming them into the image of the Son” and there is undoubtedly a day when this “corruption shall put on incorruption” BUT….. there is quite a bit of work to be done NOW!  This work must be done, firstly, IN Father’s children and, secondly, through His matured sons who are equipped to transact Father’s business in this planet.

CHANGE is a constant during the entire course of this journey and into eternity.  There’s no way around it.

In selling our home and endeavoring to purchase another one, I have seen the necessity of change constantly before me. I realized that what I had tolerated where I currently live is not acceptable to the people wanting to buy my home.  For whatever reason, I let some things go, didn’t address some issues/concerns and seemingly got along with living there just fine.  Until, this home inspector came and started making a list of things that were technically out of order, needed repair or needed to be completely replaced.

Hmmmmmm………..could there be a correlation to my life, how I exist and how I live it?  Yeah, I think so.

The Holy Spirit is the home inspector.  If we truly believe the context of the New Covenant, He dwells in believers……..we are the temple where the Spirit abides.  The things I tolerate, sweep under the rug, don’t address or willingly avoid, well, they grieve Him…………quench Him.  Yet, I am understanding that if I am going to make a move, attempt to gain ground and go to another place in Father, I am going to have to deal with these things.

I am not speaking of legalistic things.  I am so far removed from a regimented, religious construct! I am talking about Nature-things.  Things in my “personality” that I have clung on to for years because of insecurities, fear of failure and fear of rejection.  Those things are not REALLY me……….they are NOT part of the New Creation that I have become.  I tolerate them. I cling to them because I change complainsupposedly find solace in them.  But, I sense the Holy Spirit encouraging me to find my comfort in trusting Him rather than futile flashes of fleshly exhibition.  I’ve not been given a spirit of fear. I’ve been given a spirit of love, power and a right way of thinking. I must willingly step forward in my spirit, agree with the Holy Spirit as to what I have become in Christ and BE…….flesh be mortified!

What we tolerate becomes the reality of our existence. When we learn to govern ourselves through the power of the Holy Spirit we are learning to be led by the Spirit and demonstrating our true existence in Him………………sons who are able to enter into the things Father has already prepared for His family.  I am grateful for the brothers/sisters in relationship with me who encourage me, support me and place a demand on me to walk accordingly.  The greatest changes in my life have come from walking together with them in community. I am blessed to be associated with them as transition continually occurs.

I spoke with a brother this week who is experiencing gut-wrenching challenges in his marriage. I’m not talking about minor little knick-knack stuff. I’m talking about major, the-adversary-is-out-to-kill, steal and destroy machinations at work. As we conversed, we boiled it down to the bottom line……………..”I’m being required to change in ways I could have never imagined.”  He noted that both he and his wife had to change in order for Life and Love to abound in their union.  It wasn’t about circumstances changing or “things getting better” so that they’d be happy.  The realization of the need of true change and transformation has set in.

Having been there myself, I completely related to my brother and his anguish. Most people are not usually willing to invest in the effort and endurance to bring the necessary change.  Even fewer are willing to be open and transparent with their process.  Gratefully, the sense of Kingdom community that Father has led us into with this family and others has removed the shame of being honest about the true condition of our lives, homes, marriages, finances, etc….  I cannot express to you the magnitude of that principle and how it allows and encourages true transition from what we have always known and entering into what Father has prepared for us.  Some things cannot and will not be dealt with individually.  There is an unprecedented authority and capability found in a God-honoring community when people can trust Him and the Christ in one another.

Nope.  Change never stops!  If you don’t realize its requirements and how to go with the flow of it with your born again spirit with the aid of the Holy Spirit, it can get you down.  Once you get down, be aware of what comes next, won’t you?  Complaining!  Most folk are weak in spirit for one reason or another and are willing to settle for deliverance from temporal situations rather than realizing Father’s attempt for development in them through the temporal situations.

What is worse, due to the unrelenting nature of the law of change, if you buy into and yield to the spirit of this age, you will wind up being conformed to this world believing that happiness is discovered in stuff and things rather than answering to the rights and demands that Father has on your life.   A believer walking in the Kingdom can’t expect God to simply change the circumstances and situations in order to preserve and benefit our natural life (as we know it) without first considering what He is after in us so that His Life might have preeminence.

The most impressive brothers/sisters I know are the ones who not only realize that change is inevitable but they welcome it and navigate through the leading of the Holy Spirit.  When Jesus said, “Repent, the kingdom is at hand.”,  he was emphasizing the necessity for a change in thinking; releasing prior mentalities of one’s current existence so as to embrace the mentality of a new creation.  We are transformed by the total re-ordering and restructuring of our minds.  Ascendancy in the spirit is demonstrated by transforming a carnal, temporary mindset over to God’s eternal perspective! Empowerment resides in repentance. As we release our thoughts and incorporate Father’s thoughts as our own through the Spirit to spirit connection, we are empowered to change.

I leave you with the words of the Apostle Paul, found in Romans 12.  (Wuest Expanded Translation)

I therefore beg of you, please, brethren, through the instrumentality of the aforementioned mercies of God, by a once- for- all presentation to place your bodies at the disposal of God, a sacrifice, a living one, a holy one, well- pleasing, your rational, sacred service, [rational, in that this service is performed by the exercise of the mind]. And stop assuming an outward expression that does not come from within you and is not representative of what you are in your inner being but is patterned after this age; but change your outward expression to one that comes from within and is representative of your inner being, by the renewing of your mind, resulting in your putting to the test what is the will of God, the good and well- pleasing and complete will, and having found that it meets specifications, place your approval upon it.

Keep your peace!

  1. Good word, Bryon. Change is never easy. In fact, it seems harder as I get older. There has always been a southern expression, “He/She is just ‘sot’ in his/her ways”. An example of this is when a couple decides to get married later in years. They have become accustom to doing things a certain way, and it’s hard to relinquish that independence. We have to lay down those rights, and present our bodies a living sacrifice to Him. Die! Let the old man nature die.

  2. Change will come when the pain of staying the same is worse than the pain of change.

Different quotes of similar wording attributed to different authors offer a general truth about the human condition. Sadly, this is too often true when describing God’s children coming from broken relationships, broken bodies, broken __________ (fill in the blank), etc., when He is only asking for a broken spirit in His presence to be receptive to the change He requires. May we learn to walk in brokenness so that our continual changing processes can be achieved with minimal amounts of collateral damage.
